Man (50s) who died in Waterford farm accident named locally

A man aged in his 50s who died in a farm accident in Waterford has been named locally.

James Doherty from Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, which is on the Kilkenny/Waterford border, died on Sunday as a result of the incident involving farm machinery.

He is survived by his partner Lorna, brothers John, Eamonn and Pat, sisters Bridget, Eileen, Mairead and Maria, uncle Willie Doherty, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

His body was removed to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

In a statement, gardaí said that they attended the scene of a “medical incident” at a premises in Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, Co Waterford, on Sunday.

As is protocol, both gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the incident.

Gardaí added: “The man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) explained it is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation.
