Carlow Scouts rise to Phoenix challenge
The 5th Carlow Scout Troop with their gold award
EIGHT scouts from 5th Carlow Town Scout Group achieved gold standard in this year’s Scouting Ireland Phoenix Challenge.
A gold standard is awarded to teams who obtain between 80 and 100 per cent of the overall marks up for grabs during the various challenges that make up the Phoenix Challenge.
5th Carlow Town Scout Group said that it was “a fantastic accomplishment and something you should all be incredibly proud of. You represented our troop with pride, determination, teamwork and true Scout spirit.” They also thanked the leaders and parents of the troop members for all their hard work and help over the past year.
Scouting Ireland’s Pheonix Challenge is an annual four-day competition held at the Castle Saunderson International Scout Centre in County Cavan that sees troops from across the island of Ireland gather to compete. The competition combines practical scout craft skills, camp craft, outdoor cooking, sustainability initiatives and programme challenges, with patrols competing for the prestigious Phoenix Challenge trophy, alongside a range of awards recognising excellence in leadership, campcraft, environmental practices, entrepreneurship and teamwork.
This year, the competition was held from 13 to 16 August. Over the course of the four-day competition, the eight scouts from Carlow put their skills, teamwork and leadership to the test as they participated in a series of outdoor challenges and activities.
