Chart-topping songs performed in St Michael’s Church, Aghold
The Hillhouse Choristers with musical director, David Wilson
THERE was an unlikely Top of the Pops of sorts recently in a local church when parishioners got to vote for their favourite ever hymns and then heard them sung live by a guest choir!
Church of Ireland’s Tullow Group of Parishes hosted a ‘big sing’ recently in St Micheal’s Church, Aghold where those attending could vote for their favourite hymn to be sung by emailing or texting the first line of their favourite song to the church’s email. The competition for the number one slot was fierce and only the top five most popular hymns were added to the programme.
The Hillhouse Choristers from Armagh, under musical director David Wilson, were asked back to perform by popular demand. Reverend Maria Carlsson also performed a number of solo pieces and Ann Geary accompanied much of the singing on the organ.
After the event, refreshments were offered to those in attendance.
While the event was free to attend, there was a collection for the church for those who felt inclined.
A spokesperson for Tullow Group of Parishes called the event “a wonderful occasion of music and song”. They also wished to thank all who came and shared in the fellowship of the event.
