Four arrests per day for burglary, gardaí warn of increase in winter months

Over 900 arrests for burglary-related activity were made over the last six months - or four arrests a day.
Gardaí are warning that this will increase by around 20 per cent during the winter months, as the days are shorter.
There have also been around three home burglaries per county every week since April.
Operation Thor, the annual garda operation to tackle crime over the winter, begins on Wednesday.
In the 10 years of Operation Thor, recorded residential burglaries during the winter phase (October – March) have dropped by 75 per cent.
Speaking on Newstalk, Detective Superintendent Seamus Boland said the operation helps tackle organised criminal gangs breaking into people's homes:
"Everybody's vulnerable, so it's important that we look out for our neighbors.
"The most vulnerable areas are going to be rural areas of our country. It's important that isolated houses or people who are living without neighbors, living close to them...[that] people keep in touch with each other, note what's going on."
