COUNTY Carlow Military Museum will hold its annual military vehicles and militaria display on Sunday 25 May from 10am to 5pm, showcasing an incredible 800 years of local military history.
All visitors are welcome to the museum’s display at the old church, Athy Road, Carlow, including militaria and history enthusiasts, families, students or even the ‘just curious’. A great family day out awaits on Sunday. There will be a range of both indoor and outdoor displays, including a selection of vehicles that were vital to the role of the PDF (Permanent Defence Forces) at home and on UN duties.
These vehicles have been fully preserved in working condition and are presented by dedicated members of the Irish Military Vehicle Group.
At the display, County Carlow Military Museum will also have re-enactors in the form of WWI soldiers, featuring a range of period army sergeants operating instruments. This popular and interesting collection will be shown by members of The Great War Society.
WWII re-enactors featuring US and Polish Airborne Units as well as a model of the famous Enigma machine will also be on view along with period uniforms from various historical events in Ireland, including 1798 and 1916, to name but a few. In fact, the display will showcase 800 years of Carlow military history at one location!
The museum would like to offer special thanks to the HSE, St Dympna’s Hospital and its staff under the direction of Tom Walsh, facility maintenance manager, and his team. For further details or information on the display or the museum, contact 087 6904242.
