MORE THAN 70 people of all age ranges put on their walking shoes and took a trip around the beautiful Oak Park Forest Park outside Carlow to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Aptly titled the Memory Walk, the event was one of 40 that took place all over Ireland.

Men, women and children walked through the picturesque forest park on Sunday 22 September, with many of them opting to bring their four-legged friends. For some, it was a poignant trip as they thought of loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

The event gave families, friends and those living with dementia the opportunity to come together to share old memories and to make new ones. It also honoured those who are sadly no longer with us and have lived with dementia.

An estimated 64,000 people in Ireland are living with dementia, so events like the Memory Walk raise vital funds for essential support services provided by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. These services include daycare, daycare at home, an advisory service, social clubs, cafés and a national helpline.
