A MAN in his 30s has been arrested for five thefts from motor vehicles.

The thefts occurred on 29 March in the centre of Carlow town, specifically on Tullow Street, Brown Street, Sleaty Road, Castle Street and John Street.

The man was detained on 30 March and interviewed while in custody.

The man appeared before a special sitting of Carlow District Court, charged with six offences of theft from MPV and unlawful interference with a vehicle, on 31 March.

Superintendant Anthony Farrell said, "This is the second such significant arrest for thefts to and interference with vehicles, in recent days. I would ask people to ensure they lock their vehicles and do not leave any property visible from the outside, to reduce the possibility of these types of crimes."
