Lurcher Larry shows every dog has his day
Rescue dog Larry from Carlow, who is missing an eye and is completely deaf, has been awarded the Rescue/Rehomed Dog Award by the Irish Kennel Club
AFTER receiving hundreds of heartwarming nominations from across Ireland, the Irish Kennel Club has announced the winning dogs ahead of its annual awards ceremony this Saturday, 22 February, including Larry from Carlow.
Larry, a one-year-old lurcher/whippet, has been awarded the Rescue/Rehomed Dog Award for his resilience and joyful spirit.
Missing an eye and completely deaf, Larry arrived at Haven Rescue in Tipperary with his siblings, who had all been abandoned. At just 12 weeks old, he was rescued by a loving family and he has thrived ever since.
Larry is an incredibly friendly and social dog, getting along with people and animals. Since his rehoming, Larry has learned sign language commands, demonstrating his remarkable adaptability and intelligence.
The awards aim to find and reward Ireland’s most courageous, brave and life-changing canines to honour the love, companionship and service they give us on a day-to-day basis. As well as celebrating the category winners, an honorary Golden Paw Award will be presented to the overall winner chosen by a panel of judges at the event in the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge on Saturday 22 February.
The Irish Kennel Club expressed its gratitude to sponsors and nominees alike, saying: “A huge thank you to Agria for their generous support and to everyone who took the time to nominate their incredible canine companions. The overwhelming response highlights the extraordinary bond between humans and dogs and the vital roles these four-legged heroes play in our lives. We wish we could give them all a trophy!”
