Judge refuses jurisdiction in alleged hoe attack case

The case will now proceed to a higher court

A 72-YEAR-OLD Graiguecullen man has been charged with assault causing harm after allegedly attacking another person with a garden hoe, leaving them with serious head injuries. Patrick Condron, 18 Cill an Oir, Graiguecullen appeared before Judge Geraldine Carthy charged with one count under section 3 of the Non-F atal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

The court heard that the alleged victim sustained significant injuries, including lacerations to the scalp, left eye and back of the head, as well as injuries to the head and wrist. The wounds were serious enough to require medical glue to close them.

A medical report detailing the extent of the injuries was presented to Judge Carthy during the hearing.

The judge refused jurisdiction in the case, meaning it will proceed to a higher court.

Defending solicitor Joe Farrell requested disclosure of evidence in the case. The court was told that the book of evidence would take between four and six weeks to prepare.

The matter has been adjourned until 25 June for the next hearing.
