BULBS, breakfast rolls and lots of banter were the order of the day at the Electric Avenue launch at Wexford Road Business Park, Carlow recently.
Electric Avenue, named after the 1983 hit song by Eddie Grant, is the new trade name for South East Electrical Wholesale, which is part of the Seamus Byrne Electrical group. The group employs almost 90 staff from its Ballinacarrig headquarters, with many of its current employees from the Carlow area.
The wholesale business opened on the Tullow Road in 1997 and moved to its present location at the Wexford Road Business Park in 2007. The Seamus Byrne Electrical group has been in existence since the early 1980s, when it was set up by its managing director Shay Byrne. He has now been joined on the board of directors by his son Paddy.
In attendance at the launch were customers of Electric Avenue, who are mainly electricians and DIY home enthusiasts from Carlow and the general southeast region.
In line with the product Electric Avenue supplies, a panel discussion under the name ‘Bright Lights’ took place, celebrating sporting excellence and talent from around Carlow and surrounds. The panel was comprised of top national hunt jockey Danny Mullins, Olympic athlete Marcus Lawler and All-Ireland winning local ladies football legend Deirdre Tomlinson.
Local businessmen Paul Walshe of award-winning Sunshine Juice and Brian Seery of Seerys award-winning family-run bakery were also interviewed by the KCLR team about Carlow business, shining bright at national and international level.
The Electric Avenue shop will be open six days a week, where manager Brian Doyle and staff members Mick Moore and Conor Dowling will advise customers on the wide range of electrical items available.
