A 44-YEAR-old Tullow man with two previous road traffic convictions, including a drink-driving disqualification handed down earlier this year, was fined €250 after his Volkswagen van was involved in a two-vehicle collision in which he failed to stop. Kevin Martin Bermingham, Park Gate, Tullow was not present when the case was heard before Judge Geraldine Carthy at Carlow District Court.
The court heard that on 13 October 2025, at approximately 9.10pm on the Carlow road in Tullow, gardaí attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision. The injured party told gardaí that a Volkswagen van had emerged from a housing estate and failed to stop in front of her vehicle.
Mr Bermingham subsequently told gardaí he had been driving out of the estate and confirmed he had failed to stop. He held a provisional licence at the time of the incident. A fixed-charge notice was issued for driving while unaccompanied and a caution was administered for the non-display of L plates.
The court heard that Mr Bermingham has four previous convictions, among them for two road traffic matters. In February 2026, also before Carlow District Court, he was convicted of careless driving and fined €400. On the same date, he was convicted of driving while intoxicated, fined €500 and disqualified from driving for two years, a period which commenced in late February.
Judge Carthy imposed a fine of €250, with 90 days to pay.
