A RESIDENT of The Laurels who took his frustration out at his neighbour playing loud music by breaking a wall that separated their properties was last week given a custodial sentence when he appeared before Carlow District Court.

John Lynch, 132 The Laurels, Carlow was charged with causing criminal damage to his neighbour’s wall on 21 March last year.

Mr Lynch had contested the charge, but missed the court date and was found guilty in his absence by Judge Geraldine Carthy last year.

Mr Lynch was before the court last week for finalisation, when solicitor Joe Farrell told the judge that Mr Lynch wanted to repair the damage that he’d caused.

He went on to explain that Mr Lynch had been frustrated at the time because his neighbour was playing loud music late at night and that his children were woken up by it.

Mr Farrell continued that Mr Lynch’s “nerves were tetchy” and that he went outside to cool off but instead he tried to get rid of his frustration by hitting the wall.

Mr Farrell asked Judge Carthy not to impose a custodial sentence, but she replied that she had viewed CCTV footage of the incident and that Mr Lynch “took the law into his own hands”.

She then sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment and, in the event of an appeal, ordered him to not have any contact with the injured party and to be of good behaviour.
