NOTHING like a bracing sea plunge to set you up for the New Year, according to Bob Jeffers!

The Carlow resident once again bravely took a dip in the sea as part of the New Year’s Day RNLI swim. The annual event in Courtmacsherry, Co Cork once again attracted the crowds, including one well-known regular dipper – tánaiste Micheál Martin. Not a bother on either of them as they emerged victorious from the ocean from a rejuvenating New Year’s Day swim in the Cork seaside village.

Over the years, Bob’s annual dip has raised several hundred euros – much of it donated by Carlow people – in support of the Courtmacsherry RNLI, which is greatly appreciated.  Indeed, in his twenty plus years of the swim, Robert’s participation has raised in excess of €20,000 for the Courtmacsherry RNLI.

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Courtmacsherry RNLI, who were the first location to have a lifeboat in Ireland in 1825.

A native of Bandon, Co Cork, Bob is a former bank official in Co Carlow and has been actively involved in a number of local charities and organisations over the years, including Carlow Lions Club and Tullow Agricultural Show.
