Allegedly threatened pub owners with hammer

The Pint Depot in Bagenalstown
A DEFENDANT accused of walking into the Pint Depot pub in the Royal Oak, Bagenalstown was served with a book of evidence when he appeared before Carlow District Court last week. Martin Lyons, Springfield Park, Carlow was charged with possessing a hammer with the intention of incapacitating or intimidating someone at the Pint Depot pub, Royal Oak, Bagenalstown on 16 March 2024. He was also being charged with three counts of threatening to cause harm or to kill the owners during the same incident.
In an earlier court sitting, Judge Carthy heard that 30-year-old Mr Lyons entered the pub with a hammer in his hand, looking for an employee who no longer worked there. Detective Niall Moloney told the court that the defendant was “quite irate” and argued with the owners, threatening to kill them.
After hearing that evidence, Judge Carthy refused jurisdiction and last week the case was back before her for Mr Lyons to be sent forward to the circuit court. Solicitor Chris Hogan asked for legal aid to be extended to cover one counsel for the circuit court, which she permitted. She then adjourned the matter until the circuit court sitting in July and remanded Mr Lyons in custody until then.
