€8.9m boost for County Carlow's road network

Co Carlow's local and regional roads to benefit
MINISTER OF STATE Jennifer Murnane O'Connor has confirmed over €28.4 million worth of government funding has been approved for regional and local roads in Carlow and Kilkenny.
Some €8.9 million has been allocated to Carlow, while €19.5 million has been approved for regional and local roads in Kilkenny.
Minister Murnane O'Connor said: "I’m delighted that my colleague minister for transport Darragh O’Brien has approved €8.9 million for Co Carlow regional and local roads and €19.5 million for Co Kilkenny.
"This significant investment will make a huge difference to the rural road network, improving safety on our roads, reducing journey times. We know what a difference improved infrastructure can make to local towns and villages and communities. Fianna Fáil in government will prioritise investment in our rural road infrastructure in the next five years." Announcing the investment Minister O’Brien said: “My main priority is the ongoing maintenance and renewal of the regional and local road network, alongside strategic investment in developing and improving the road infrastructure network”. The 2025 grants programme includes boosted funding for restoration improvement, bridge rehabilitation, safety projects and the Community Involvement Scheme. The Department of Transport will also continue to offer grant assistance to local authorities for the implementation of reduced speed limits on rural local roads.
