A MEETING is being organised by activists and political parties to urge local TDs to pass the
in support of Palestine.MEP Kathleen Funchion will be joined by activists from Carlow IPSC, while the meeting, which takes place on Monday 12 May at 7.30pm in the Seven Oaks Hotel, will be chaired by cllr Adrienne Wallace.
“While the genocide in Gaza escalates, it is only being met by louder platitudes from the taoiseach, which do nothing to aid the plight of the Palestinians. We need tangible action and the best way to deliver that is to pass the
,” said cllr Wallace.Cllr Wallace added “If enacted, the OTB will prohibit the importation into Ireland of goods and services from settlements illegally established on occupied territories. This includes Israel’s ever-expanding settlements in the illegally occupied Palestinian territory. Both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael made pre-election promises to pass the
– we must hold them to account on this.”Cllr Wallace continued: “For ordinary people, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless when we see these war crimes continue on the world stage. However, the local government TDs in Carlow and Kilkenny have the power to do something about it and we must ensure they feel the pressure from the people to do so. I would urge everyone to join the meeting and follow in the footsteps of the ordinary Dunnes Stores workers, who helped end apartheid in South Africa.”
