CARLOW’S Sinn Féin comhairle ceantair, the body which oversees the activities of the party across the county, elected a new officer board at a recent meeting in Tinryland GAA Club.
Fresh from her encouraging general election campaign, Áine Gladney was elected chair of the Carlow Comhairle Ceantair, while 2024 local election candidate for the Carlow LEA Mark Callinan was elected secretary.
Speaking after the meeting, Ms Gladney said: “It is a great honour and privilege to have been elected by my fellow Sinn Féin members in Carlow to take on the role as chair of the comhairle ceantair, the body which manages the activities of the party across all of Co Carlow.
“Carlow Sinn Féin has been very busy over the past 12 months. We had two elections in 2024 and saw the party’s support grow thanks to the tireless canvassing of our members on the campaign trail. No party could function without its members and we are lucky in Carlow to have a strong core, who are invaluable,” she said.
Ms Gladney also thanked outgoing chair Alan Hanks and his officer board for their work.
“They leave me a good platform now to build and grow Sinn Féin as the viable alternative to the establishment parties in Carlow,” she said.
