MESD Ventures has submitted a planning application to build 87 houses in Ashfield estate in Bagenalstown. The extension to the estate submitted to Carlow Co Council on 23 March will consist of 48 semi-detached houses, seven terraced houses and 32 apartments.

There will be eight one-bed apartments and 24 two-bed apartments on the 7.29-acre site. There will be two two-bedroom houses, 37 three-bed houses and 16 four-bed houses. Part of the development will consist of social and affordable housing.

The site will back on to Kilree Football Club and plans outline a large green space in the front of the estate. It will be reached from the R724 going to Moneybeg.

Deniz Erdem is listed as the company director of MESD Ventures, which previously received permission in 2019 to build 64 houses on the same site. The company also owns 38-43 Tullow Street, where it had planned to convert unused office space into student accommodation before the planning permission expired.

The application is at pre-validation stage and is open to submissions from the public until 26 April. The developers will receive a decision from the council before 17 May.
