After three years, the Slaney Rovers lotto was finally won just before the turn of the year, as Brenda McSweeney scooped the top prize of €20,000.

Speaking to The Nationalist, Slaney Rovers Chairman, Peter Kehoe explained that they were happy to finally see it won.

“The Slaney Rovers club lotto has been running since 2001. It’s a weekly draw where four numbers are drawn and the winner takes the jackpot. If there is no jackpot winner, anybody who matches three numbers shares €150. If it’s not won, it goes back into the prize pot, and it accumulates every week, with the limit being set at €20,000. The club lotto is the main fundraiser for Slaney Rovers each year. You can buy books from local outlets or club sellers, or play online. On Monday, 30th December’s draw, we had a winner of the €20,000 jackpot that had not been won for nearly 3 years. Slaney Rovers would like to congratulate and wish Mrs McSweeney all the best with her win. We’re glad to finally see it won. Mrs McSweeney is actually the mother in law of Dan O’Brien, long term player with Slaney so there’s a connection there to the club.”

Upon receiving the money, Mrs McSweeney from Baltinglass said: “Winning this money means a lot to me as I was diagnosed with cancer for the third time last year, only for my husband and three kids, they pulled me through it. I am now in remission so I would like to treat my family and grandkids to a holiday of a lifetime.”
