It was an evening to remember for two of the Carlow contingent at Wexford FC as they beat Shamrock Rovers at Ferrycarrig Park in the Women’s Premier Division.

Lauren Dwyer made her 200th appearance for Wexford in the 2-1 win, the winning goal scored by Aoife Kelly against her former team.

Dwyer won three league titles and a FAI Cup during her first spell with Wexford and since returning to the club for the start of this season has helped the team turn their fortunes around and this win, a week after qualifying for the All-Island Cup final, solidifies their third place in the league table.

After falling behind early on, Wexford, who were captained by Kylie Murphy and had Roisin Joyce on the bench, secured the win thanks to Under 19 international Kelly’s 72nd minute goal, a move started by free kick taken by Dwyer back in her own half.

Kelly spent two years with the Tallaght club and was reserved in her celebrations but it’s a big win for her current team as Wexford continue a promising season.
