For the second time in three games, Padraig Amond scored the winning goal as Waterford FC continued their resurgence since the sacking of Keith Long with a 1-0 win over reigning champions Shelbourne at Tolka Park this evening.
Waterford lost six games in a row under Long before he was sacked and then the first game under new interim boss Matt Lawlor but Amond scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win over Derry City as they ended that losing run at the end of last month.
Waterford followed that with a 2-1 away win against Bohemians last Friday night and recorded another win in the capital this evening against Damien Duff's side.
Amond scored the only goal of the game after just three minutes when he headed home from Conan Noonan's right wing free kick.
The result leaves Waterford in eighth place in the Premier Division table after 14 games, just one point behind Shelbourne, but in a cramped table they are just six points off top spot.
Over the weekend, Waterford announced that John Coleman will be Long's permanent replacement and he will look to continue their three game winning streak when he takes charge for the first time at home to Galway on Friday evening
