In response to a video circulating on social media, Carlow GAA has confirmed that the Nationalist Cup suffered no damage during celebrations following Rathvilly's victory over Old Leighlin in last Sunday's county final.
The video appeared to show an attempt to remove the lid of the trophy using what appeared to be an angle grinder. However, Carlow GAA confirmed that the cup has since been returned to the County Board and remains undamaged.
The statement read:
"In relation to a video that has been in circulation appearing to show damage being done to the Carlow Senior Football Championship trophy, the Nationalist Cup, Carlow GAA are pleased to report that the Cup has been returned to the County Board and that no actual damage has been done to the Cup."
The Nationalist Cup replaced the Conlon Cup as the prize for the Carlow Senior Football champions and was first presented to winners Éire Óg in 2017.
