The driver was already on nine penalty points

A VAN driver stopped on the N7 by Naas Roads Policing is now facing a six-month driving ban after being observed holding a mobile phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other while behind the wheel.

The motorist was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice of €160 and three penalty points. However, as the driver was already on nine points, the additional penalty brings him to the threshold for disqualification. He now faces being off the road for six months.

Gardaí have urged motorists to drive with due care and attention at all times, reminding the public that distractions such as mobile phone use significantly increase the risk of collisions.
