Two locals charged in connection to murder

Conor O'Brien, with an address at Oakley Park, Carlow is accused of bringing weapons to a dispute
A LOCAL woman charged with the murder of Darren Quigley, Sabrina Kehoe and a co-accused Conor O’Brien, who faces a charge of bringing weapons to a dispute, appeared via video link in Carlow District Court on Friday.
The pair were remanded in custody until 6 November and will next appear in the local district court via video link for directions by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Ms Kehoe, St Mary’s Park, Carlow had previously been formally charged on Wednesday night before Judge Geraldine Carthy with the murder of Mr Quigley (30). He died at New Oak Estate, Carlow on Monday night 21 October.
The court heard that Mr Quigley had been stabbed four times in the chest and back outside a house in Market View, New Oak Estate.
Emergency services were called to the scene after 11.40pm, where they found Mr Quigley unresponsive and suffering from serious stab wounds. He was brought to St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny, where he was later pronounced dead.
Ms Kehoe, who is in her 30s and was known to the victim, was arrested shortly afterwards in the Carlow area before she was brought to court on Wednesday.
Det garda Philip O'Sullivan, in evidence to the court, said that Ms Kehoe made no reply after she was cautioned and charged.
She was granted an application for free legal aid and she also acceded to a request from defence solicitor Alexander Rafter that his client receive any medical attention required.
Mr O’Brien (23) also appeared in court on Wednesday evening charged in connection with the incident. Conor O'Brien, with an address at Oakley Park, Carlow town is accused of bringing weapons to a dispute.
Det garda Derek McEvoy from Carlow Garda Station told the court that Mr O'Brien made no reply when charged and cautioned. Counsel for Mr O'Brien made an application for bail, but Judge Carthy said that given the seriousness of the charge she would refuse it.
Because she is charged with murder, Ms Kehoe will have to apply to the High Court for bail because it can’t be granted at district court level for such a serious offence.
