The evening’s guest of honour, former rugby union player Bernard Jackman, delivered an inspiring speech connecting his sporting career to the agricultural show. “He connected his career back to the show and talked about how the show committee resembles a team and how you all have to work together,” Mr Hawkins explained.

Show chairman Robert Keogh opened the proceedings before introducing president Richard Codd, who presented a memorial cup in honour of Maura Sheppard. Ms Sheppard, an honorary life member of Tullow Show, who passed away earlier this year, was remembered through the presentation of the ‘most appropriately dressed lady’ cup to her daughter Rose, with other family members present for the tribute.

“She was involved with the show for years and years, so it was great to have the presentation,” said Mr Hawkins.

The launch also featured remarks from George Steacy, a board member of the Irish Shows Association, who delivered a speech marking the occasion.

Looking ahead to the main event on 17 August, attendees can expect a full day of entertainment. Country musicians Michael English and Alistair Fingleton will perform, while those looking to dance can participate in jiving competitions on the dedicated dance floor.

Culinary demonstrations will be provided by celebrity chefs Eunice Power and Edward Hayden. For those wishing to showcase their baking skills, there will be competitions for bread, cakes and jams.
