There's a great buzz at sunflower field in Crookett

Members of the Dunne family with some neighbours at the sunflower field in Crookett, near Castledermot

Down a crooked road near Castledermot is a field that's awash with colour and excitement.

The Dunne family have opened up a field of sunflowers in the townsland of Crookett, just off the main road from Carlow to Castledermot, to the public.

They are raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis unit in St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin for the third year in a row by selling the golden, happy flowers. The field was opened during the August Bank Holiday Weekend and is open again this coming weekend.

People are invited to go along to pick their own bouquet of flowers, stay for a chat and a cuppa, and to soak up the atmosphere among the happy blooms. There's no cover charge, just a donation of whatever you can afford to this worthwhile cause.

Just turn off the main road at the Prumplestown roundabout and follow the signs down the crooked road until you see the big happy heads on the flowers! Alternatively, the Eircode is R93 C6K3.
