Teenager had €800 worth of cannabis and stole aftershave and shower gel
The teen pleaded guilty to possessing two bags of cannabis worth €800
A TEENAGER last week pleaded guilty in Carlow District Court to having a quantity of cannabis when he was aged 16, while he also admitted to stealing a bottle of aftershave worth €185 from a local department store.
The young man, who is now 19 but who can’t be named for legal reasons, was initially charged with having a quantity of cannabis for sale or supply in Clayton Hall, Carlow on 29 November 2022.
The defendant also admitted to stealing a bottle of aftershave and shower gel from Shaws Department Store, Tullow Street, Carlow on 31 August 2024.
Sergeant Peter Smyth told the court that Garda Goulding was on patrol when he saw two young men acting suspiciously and that he found two bags of cannabis worth €800 when he searched the defendant.
He also said that the young man entered Shaws in August 2024 and took the aftershave worth €185 and a shower gel worth €32 and left the shop without paying for them.
Solicitor Joe Farrell told Judge Geraldine Carthy, in reference to the two bags of cannabis found, said that his client admitted to owning the bag with the lesser amount of cannabis in it and that the person who was with him owned the larger amount.
He continued that the young man had €200 in court by way of compensation for the loss of the goods and that he’d never been in trouble before. He said his client had misbehaved “for a short period”, that he was “now over it” and was “at a crossroads in his life”.
Judge Carthy adjourned the matter until 3 December so that a probation report could be written up.
