‘Summer Stars’ will keep children busy
School children attend the launch of the Summer Stars reading programme in The Exchange, Carlow with author Niall de Búrca and mayor of Carlow Ken Murnane
SCHOOL’S out for the summer, so Carlow County Library has stepped into the breach to come up with a plan to keep little minds occupied over the next two months.
The library has just launched its ‘Summer Stars’ reading adventure for children, with the help of fabulous storyteller Niall de Búrca and new Carlow Municipal District cathaoirleach Ken Murnane at the Exchange, Carlow.
‘Summer Stars’ is a free, national reading programme available to all children. Each child is invited to sign up at their local library and enjoy reading lots of books as part of the adventure during the summer holidays. Participants are given a Summer Stars reading booklet to record and track their progress, make notes and pictures on the books they have read and log their visits to the library.
Children are encouraged to continue reading throughout the programme, with rewards and incentives along the way. They can enter a weekly draw and also be in with a chance to win a mega-prize at the end of the summer. Keep an eye on Carlow County Library Facebook page to make sure you don’t miss out on any events happening throughout the coming weeks.
