St Leo’s College stage spectacular musical!

The assembled cast of transition year students
CONGRATULATIONS to the staff and transition year students at St Leo’s College who put on the wonderful musical Matilda and the Revolting Children in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre, recently. From the moment the lights went down, the show, captivated audiences from beginning to end.

There were three matinee performances for local primary schools while each of the three evening performances received standing ovations achieving a full house every night. The show had raucous and energetic dance routines and with class groups delivering their performances expertly. The audience was captivated by the eye-catching choreography, truly showcasing the cast’s passion for performing.

The principal leads delivered powerful performances. Alexandra Potocka and Fallon Byrne each took the lead role of Matilda in three performances apiece as Matilda. Meadhbh Peters Lynam delivered a tour de force as Ms Trunchbull.

The transition year musical maintained the high standards of previous years due to the production and organisation of co-ordinators Veronica Doyle and Angela Kirwan.

Directed by Roisín Currid and musically directed by Carrie McCarthy and Mary Kavanagh, the students delivered inspired performances. The costumes and props really created a perfect foil for the drama on stage and all of this is thanks to Laura Dowling.

Thanks to Lauren Connors and her team who created the wonderful sets. A huge thank you to the staff who supported the production over the three nights and three matinees most particularly Hanna Zadorozhna, Sandra Corrigan, Sean Woods and Caroline Quirke.

Behind the scenes these teachers made sure that the cast kept their shape and delivered a seamless performance for every routine. When the curtains fell after the final performance, the theatre was efficiently restored by Noel Thompson, Joshua Coyle and Brian Broderick.

Sincere thanks also to head girls Abigail Meredith, Alanna Willoughby and Kate Sheehan who warmly welcomed the audience at the beginning of each performance.

Thanks also to St Leo’s College Parents’ Association who organized a wonderful raffle, supported by many very generous business and individual sponsors in Carlow.
