THERE were tears of joy and utter relief on Friday when the day of reckoning finally arrived for the class of 2025!

It was the end of a long wait for hundreds of students from across County Carlow as their leaving cert results were finally issued. While most of the young people opted to find out how they’d done by picking up their results on-line, some students returned to their schools, to meet their friends and teachers and receive the all-important certificate in person.
For many students it was a dream realised when they scored the points that they were chasing. One such bright spark was Abigail Meredith who achieved the maximum of 625 points! She was on holiday in Palermo with her friend when the results came out so her parents Mary and Kenwent into St Leo’s College to collect the results on her behalf.

“I’m over the moon! I can’t believe it. I’m still in shock, really,” said Abigail.
“She gave so much to the school throughout her years here. She’s so committed to everything that she does. She’s an excellent student,” said principal Niamh Broderick while her mother said that they were all very proud of her.
Miss Broderick said that she was proud of all her students. “These results are testament to the hard work the girls put in over the course of senior cycle, the excellent tuition they received here in St Leo’s College and the support of their families. It was wonderful to welcome so many of them in today to collect results and celebrate with each other and with their teachers.” Newly appointed principal of Presentation de la Salle, Bagenalstown Michael Hickey extended his congratulations to all his students.
“A special congratulations to Kellie Dermody who achieved seven H1s/625 points. Kellie has been a fantastic student during her time at Presentation De La Salle College and is now looking forward to studying law in UCD. All at Presentation De la Salle College are extremely proud of the class of 2025. Our students achieved exceptional results this year. A huge thank you to the parents, teachers, SNAs and the whole school community here.” For Shane O’Leathlobhair, Friday was a dream come true when he got an remarkable 625 points in his exams in Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach. Congratulating all the students, the school said: “Their perseverance and commitment have been remarkable. We wish them every success as they move on to university, apprenticeships or the world of work. Comhghairdeas ó chroí le daltaí Bliain a Sé 2025.” Sixty-five students in St Mary's College Knockbeg sat the leaving cert this year, with some receiving their results in person from principal John Maye and deputy principal Conor Ronan.
“The leaving certificate results are a milestone in everyone's life and gets quite a lot of attention. As a community it is a privilege to share this moment with the students and their families. They will always be members of the Knockbeg community and we hope to have lots of moments together in the future at past pupil events. And we are always here for them with advice,” said Mr Maye.
Coláiste Eoin, Hackettstown, congratulated the Class of 2025. Principal Alan Costello said: “Staff and families are immensely proud of every student for their achievements, especially given the added pressure of tighter national grading this year. Today is a day of celebration, reflection, and excitement for the bright futures that now lie ahead.” Fiona Lennon, principal of St Mary’s Academy CBS, Carlow, was keen to acknowledge how well the students did and the support they received. “Many of our students have achieved exceptional results, securing top grades in individual subjects. These successes reflect not only their efforts but also the incredible support from their families and the dedication of our teachers. We are proud of every student, whether moving on to university, apprenticeships or other exciting opportunities. We wish them all the very best for the future.” Dr Pauline Egan, Chief Executive (acting) and Director of Schools at KCETB said: “Sincere thanks are extended to the teachers and school management for their dedicated support of this year’s Leaving Certificate cohort. As these students embark on the next chapter — whether in higher education, training, or the world of work — every good wish goes with them for continued success and fulfilment."
