A public meeting, open to all, has been arranged for Monday 13 July for those interested or affected by the recent installation of static cameras in Carlow, Waterford and Kilkenny.

The meeting is being held at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel and will begin at 8pm.

At the meeting there will be updates on the progress of investigations and issues to do with the static cameras in the three counties. Plans and strategies for how this issue will be progressed will also be revealed at the meeting.

"This meeting will be of great benefit to everyone who has been affected by the static camera and fixed penalty notices." a spokesperson said in a statement uploaded to Facebook.

Catherine Callahan TD and George Lawlor TD have both confirmed that they will be in attendance.

Organisers have said that as it costs €125 to rent the room in the hotel they are looking for donations to help cover the cost with any money left over going to charities in Carlow.

The camera at Graigenaspiddoge has proved to be one of the most active in the country. Figures released to the Dáil following a parliamentary question by Labour TD George Lawlor showed that in its first year of operation the camera issued 15,880 fines, generating around €2.5 million for the exchequer - the second-highest total of any static camera in the State, behind only the N25 camera at Glenmore, Co Kilkenny.

It has also generated a steady flow of cases before Carlow District Court, where motorists who missed the 56-day payment window or chose to contest their fixed charge notice have appeared before Judge Geraldine Carthy.
