Oaklawns estate street lighting needs to be completely rewired

STREET lights in Oaklawns housing estate in Carlow town need complete rewiring.
The estate needs to have its street lighting completely rewired as “the initial system that was installed is incorrect," said Coilín O’Reilly, chief executive of Carlow County Council said at November’s council meeting.
Mr O’Reilly said: “The biggest issue with regards to that is where is the money going to come from. Rewiring a whole estate for extra lights is not going to be cheap and that it was not just the lights on the Oaklawns estate that needed rewiring but also the streetlights opposite the estate because they were installed as part of the same electrical circuit.” Mr O’Reilly said it was Carlow County Council’s responsibility to rewire all the street lights on the estate and then they would need to arrange for ESB to come and connect those lights to the grid.
The matter was not resolved at the meeting as Mr O’Reilly said that the council needed to have a conversation about where in their budget the funds for this rewiring would come from.
