New gym to open in Fairgreen?

CARLOW Co Council has received a planning application to convert the former New Look shop into a Snap Fitness 24/7 gym. New Look announced its Irish operations would close down in February 2025 and, since then, the unit in Fairgreen shopping centre has been vacant.
Proposed floor plans submitted by NL Gyms Ltd, a company with a registered address in Carlow, state that there will be a gym at ground and first-floor levels and two studios within the building, connected by a new internal staircase.
The owner of the unit, Desmond Dennehy of Pasteway Ltd, submitted a letter consenting to the development, along with the application.
The Snap Fitness 24/7 franchise operates eight gyms across Ireland, including in Naas and Waterford.
The application was received on 16 June and members of the public can submit observations on the development until 20 July.
