PLANNING permission has been granted for the redevelopment of 146 Tullow Street, bringing a new deli and grocery business to one of Carlow town’s main streets.

The application, lodged on 17 April by applicant Junayed Suman, was approved by Carlow County Council on 1 September. The site was previously home to a sports retail outlet.

The plans outline a ground-floor layout divided into three distinct areas: a deli space to the front of the premises facing Tullow Street, with a larger retail area to the rear and finally a grocery section positioned further inside the unit.

The first-floor accommodation will be reconfigured with new kitchen, living, bedroom and bathroom areas.

The project also includes changes to the front of the unit with a new entrance door providing access to the upper floors, updated signage, and general refurbishment works.

According to the architectural drawings, the redevelopment will cover a total area of around 391m², with the deli and grocery forming the main public-facing aspect of the new premises.

The renovation is expected to breathe new life into this section of Tullow Street, where there are currently several vacant units and shopfronts.
