A number of rallies are to be held across the southeast on Saturday over the fuel and cost-of-living crisis.

In Tipperary, two rallies are to take place in Thurles and Cahir on Saturday afternoon.

Organisers have said that the gatherings are an opportunity for people to show their support for thousands of people who took part in protests on the M8 last week, while also calling on the government to take action.

Dan Harty is one of the organisers of the Thurles rally and said that the protest will be “peaceful“.

Protestors will gather at the Munster Hotel car park and will leave for Liberty Square at 2:30pm ending outside the Ursuline Convent.

Harty added that many people had been in touch with him enquiring if another protest would take place, he got in contact with others and decided to “go ahead with this (rally) this weekend.”

“I want to give a massive call out to those who want to show solidarity with the protest last week, to those who are directly affected by the cost of living crisis – whether it’s the price of fuel at the pumps, whether it’s the price of home heating oil or whether you’re in arrears on your electric bill,” Harty added.

“To those who are very unhappy with how the government handled the protest last week and how things went in the no confidence vote so get your feet out on the street this Saturday.”

In Carlow, a peaceful protest is to be held at 2pm on Saturday from Four Lakes Retail park to the Liberty Tree in the centre of the town.

Numerous tractors, trucks and contractors are expected to take part.
