Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan has expressed shock following a “horrific” attack on a woman in west Dublin.

The woman is being treated for burn injuries following the incident at a home in Clondalkin on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí said they were investigating the incident.

A Garda spokesperson said the woman was taken to hospital to be treated for burn injuries which are believed to be serious, while a man was also taken to hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established at Clondalkin Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with video footage of the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9.30am and 10.20am on Tuesday morning to contact them.

Mr O’Callaghan echoed the Garda appeal for information.

“I am shocked by this morning’s horrific attack on a woman in Clondalkin,” he said.

“I have been briefed on the attack by the gardaí, and I join with them in appealing to anyone with information to come forward so that the perpetrator of this vicious attack can be brought to justice.”
