Gardaí investigate death of man at Longford sports facility

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) are set to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Longford town yesterday.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to a medical incident which occurred at a sports facility in Longford town at around 10.40am on Monday, December 8th .
Gardaí say a man, aged in his 50s, was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced dead. The sports centre closed immediately.
A postmortem examination will take place in due course, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation. The local coroner has also been informed of the incident.
A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services responded to a medical incident which occurred at a sports facility in Longford town yesterday, Monday, December 8, 2025 at approximately 10.40am.
"A man, aged in his 50s, was taken to the Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced deceased. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified."
The spokesperson continued: "The local Coroner has been informed. A postmortem examination will take place in due course, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation."
A HSA spokesperson stated: "The HSA is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation."
