Fontaines DC have paid tribute to their “dear friend” and manager Trevor Dietz.

The Irish rock band shared the news of Dietz’s death on social media, calling him the “sixth member of the band”.

Posting a solo photo of Dietz, as well as one with the band, they wrote: “We are utterly heartbroken to let you know that on Sunday, June 7th we lost our dear friend and manager Trevor.

“Trevor was beside us from the beginning of our journey as a band; we have never known Fontaines DC without him, the sixth member of the band.

“He cared passionately for us and for what was fair and right in the wider world. He was fearless in his beliefs. We will miss him always.”

They concluded the post by adding: “We ask that you kindly respect our privacy and that of his family at this terribly difficult time. RIP Trev.”

The first photo of Dietz showed him wearing a Kneecap T-shirt, with the fellow Irish musicians’ official page commenting “Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam, a chara”, translated from Gaelic as “Rest in peace, my friend”.

Kneecap rapper Moglai Bap also wrote: “Suaimhneas síoraí Trev.”

Comedian and actress Aisling Bea said: “The most beautiful man. My god boys I am so sorry.”

A cause of death has not been made public.

Dietz signed Fontaines DC in 2016 ahead of their breakthrough debut album Dogrel.

In a 2019 interview with the Hot Press Mix (Music Industry Xplained) Course Wrap Night, Dietz recalled an early meeting with the band and asking about their “goals and endgame”.

He said, “I would not have worked with the band if they had not had huge expectations and huge dreams.

“If other people had heard the conversation that day they would have gone, “Jesus, these guys are nuts, it is not going to happen”, but I knew we could go well beyond Ireland with this.”

The band, whose line-up includes Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan, and Tom Coll, has since become one of Ireland’s most successful exports.

Dogrel was nominated for the Mercury Prize, while their albums A Hero’s Death and Romance were nominated for best rock album at the 2021 and 2025 Grammys.

Last year, their single Starburster was also nominated for best alternative music performance.

They also won international group of the year at the Brit Awards in 2023 and 2025.

Fontaines DC are set to return to the stage in August for shows across Europe, including playing at Reading and Leeds Festival.

They’ve also recently been working on new material after contributing to the Peaky Blinders Immortal Man soundtrack and the War Child Help(2) album.
