IRISH butchery talent was in the spotlight in Dingle recently as Murphy’s Craft Butchers of Tullow took home two coveted gold awards at the prestigious Blas na hÉireann food awards.

Their innovative black charcoal ribeye steak and flavour-packed chicken Italiano dish wowed judges, earning top honours for Jim and Bernadeta Murphy.

A delighted Jim said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to take home two gold awards at Blas na hÉireann.

“It’s a real honour to have our products recognised on such a respected stage and it reflects the hard work, passion and craft that goes into everything we do.

“At the end of the day, it’s about bringing our customers something truly special and awards like this show we’re on the right path.” Jim and Bernadeta are no strangers to winning awards as they’ve previously scooped the best chicken product at the World Butchers’ Olympics while their pork sausage was named the best in the World Butchers’ Challenge in America.

Murphy Craft Butchers, established in 1909, is a family-owned business with a legacy spanning five generations of master butchers.

Among the winners were Bergin Family Butchers, Naas, who took a silver award for their signature 12 hour slow cooked featherblade with creamy mash in the Ready Meals category. These successes highlight the remarkable skill, craftsmanship and commitment to quality that define Irish butchery today with customers across the country reaping the benefits.

Now in its 18th year, Blas na hÉireann stands as the largest competition celebrating quality Irish produce on the island.

Each year, the awards culminate in one of the biggest gatherings in Irish food, as producers from every corner of the country converge in Dingle.
