Motorcyclist seriously injured as stolen truck flees Garda before crash in Graigue
A motorcyclist in his 30s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic collision in Graiguecullen on Wednesday 8 July 2026, involving a truck that had been reported stolen in Dublin hours earlier.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after the crash, which happened when a stolen black Ford Ranger pick-up truck collided with a car and a motorcycle on Chaff Street.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in the Rathcoole area of Co. Dublin in the early hours of the morning. It was then spotted by Gardaí on mobile patrol travelling on Chaff Street at approximately 7.35am.
The truck failed to stop and collided with another car and a motorcycle before leaving the scene.
The motorcyclist, a man in his thirties, was taken from the scene to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
Four male juvenile teenagers were arrested at the scene and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Garda stations in Co. Carlow.
The road was closed for examination in the aftermath of the collision but has since reopened.
An Garda Síochána has referred the incident to Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, as the vehicle involved was subject to an unauthorised taking investigation.
Gardaí are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users who may have camera or dash-cam footage are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
