Man stole premixed cocktail from supermarket

He was arrested when he left the store

A MAN has been fined €250 after admitting to stealing a premixed cocktail beverage from an Aldi supermarket in Carlow. Tomas Postecki, 45 Ferrybank Apartments, Graiguecullen appeared before the local court, where he pleaded guilty to theft.

The court heard that on 18 March 2025, Garda Whelan arrested Mr Postecki as he left the Aldi store. The assistant manager had reviewed CCTV footage and identified the suspect.

When cautioned in relation to the theft, 37-year-old Mr Postecki made a full admission. He had failed to pay for goods valued at €12.99, namely a premixed cocktail.

The court was told that Mr Postecki had seven previous convictions, his most recent for a public order offence on 5 December 2023. He had no previous convictions for theft, although four of his previous convictions related to public intoxication.

Defending solicitor John O’Sullivan said his client apologised for the incident. He told the court that the theft had cost Mr Postecki his relationship with his former partner and that his client had been on good behaviour for a long time “until drink got the better of him”.

Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Postecki and imposed a fine of €250, giving him 90 days to pay.
