A 28-YEAR-OLD Dublin man who voluntarily removed cocaine from his underwear and attempted to dispose of it on a Carlow street has been fined €300. Josh Croft of 45 Snowdrop Walk, Darndale, Dublin 17 appeared before Carlow District Court charged with possession of cocaine under the .
The court heard that on 20 August 2024 at Castle Street, Carlow, Detective Garda John Moulton stopped and searched the defendant under section 23 of the .
Mr Croft voluntarily removed “a wrap of white powder” from his underwear and attempted to get rid of it on the footpath. It was determined to be €20 worth of cocaine.
The court was told the defendant had ten previous convictions but none in relation to drugs.
Defence solicitor Alex Rafter said in mitigation that it was “a relatively small value, albeit cocaine is a very serious drug”.
He added that his client was not working at the moment but was in the process of setting up a roofing business with a friend, a trade he had learned from his father.
Mr Croft came down from Dublin to Carlow District Court with the support of his partner and, Mr Rafter added, “it is his first offence in relation to drugs”.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted and fined Mr Croft €300, with 120 days to pay.
