Man arrested as Gardaí seize drugs worth over €215,000 in Hacketstown
Over €200k of drugs were seized by An Garda Siochana on 30 December
A MAN in his 30s has been arrested following the seizure of drugs with a combined street value of more than €215,000 in Hacketstown, Co Carlow.
The Carlow Drugs Unit conducted a search of a house in the town on Tuesday, 30 December, as part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of drugs in the region.
During the search, Gardaí seized suspected cannabis with a street value of €136,000, cocaine valued at €38,000, Valium tablets worth €2,000, and vapes and vape liquid valued at €39,000. Cash totalling €21,750 was also seized.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.
The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The operation focuses on disrupting, dismantling and prosecuting drug trafficking networks at international, national and local levels involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, sale and supply of controlled drugs.
