Gardaí appeal for witnesses after armed raider demands cash from Old Burrin Road convenience shop

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at the Centra convenience store on the Old Burrin Road in Carlow town on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 9pm on 1 November when a lone male entered the premises carrying a knife and hammer. The man, who was carrying a sports bag, demanded that the cashier empty the till before fleeing the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as being approximately 6 feet in height, of a slim to medium build, and aged between his twenties and early thirties. He was wearing a black top and tracksuit bottoms with white trainers and was “covered up head to toe”, according to a witness.

No items were taken from the shop during the incident. The suspect is believed to have left in the direction of the New Oak housing estate.

An Garda Síochána is now appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward if they witnessed anything suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station.
