Investigation into Escape from Kilkenny Garda Station Kilkenny

Gardaí in Kilkenny are continuing to investigate the escape of a male detainee from Kilkenny Garda Station, where he was being held as part of ongoing criminal investigations. The man, who was arrested on 18 September, escaped from custody on the evening of Monday 22 September 2025. He was last seen on Emmet Street, Kilkenny, shortly after 8pm. As part of the investigation, a number of searches have been carried out, including at several residential properties and lands in County Kilkenny. One adult male (aged in his 40s) was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting an unlawful escape from custody and was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in the eastern region. He has since been released pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Gardaí are appealing to the public for their assistance while investigators are also liaising with other national and regional agencies to support efforts in locating and arresting the suspect.
