INTREO recently hosted a very successful work and skills recruitment and training event in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow.

The event brought together employers, training providers and jobseekers to explore employment and upskilling opportunities in Carlow and the wider region.

In attendance were minister for social protection Dara Calleary and minister of state Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, who engaged with those present to develop further insight into the local labour market and the supports available to jobseekers.

Earlier, the ministers also visited the Carlow Intreo Centre to meet staff who deliver essential employment and income supports.

“It was a pleasure to join minister Calleary today in Carlow to see firsthand the fantastic opportunities available through the Intreo Work and Skills initiative. Events like this are crucial in connecting local jobseekers with employers and training providers, helping people to take the next step in their careers,” said minister Murnane O’Connor.

“Carlow has a vibrant workforce and it was inspiring to see so many people engaging with employers across sectors such as manufacturing, hospitality, engineering and more. I want to commend the Department of Social Protection for organising this event and the Intreo staff for their hard work in supporting jobseekers every day,” she added.

The work and skills event featured employers such as NUA Manufacturing, Murray Timber Group, Woodford Dolmen Hotel and the Defence Forces, offering roles in hospitality, retail, construction, engineering and quality control. Education providers were also on hand to discuss upskilling and retraining options, as well as Carlow Citizens Information Centre.
