Homeowners affected by pyrite will not miss out on remediation scheme

Six houses in Co Carlow have been identified as having possible pyrite
NO CO CARLOW homeowner affected by the devastation of pyrite will miss out on the remediation scheme, insisted the boss of Carlow County Council.
Chief executive Coilín O’Reilly confirmed at the May meeting of Carlow County Council that while the local authority had not received any update on the matter, “no-one will miss out” on being included in the national scheme.
Mr O’Reilly confirmed that, to date, six houses in Co Carlow had been identified as having possible pyrite. This figure has not changed since Mr O’Reilly first confirmed the number in July 2024, as was reported in
at that time.Mr O’Reilly stated that the remediation scheme is receiving most of its applications from Mayo and Donegal and therefore assured members that “another six will not be an issue”.
Mr O’Reilly also urged anyone in the county who believes their home is possibly affected by pyrite to contact Carlow County Council’s fire services and “we will follow up”.
The matter was raised by cllr Daniel Pender, who said he was contacted by a constituent who “does not know what to do and if he will be included in the compensation scheme”.
“I know the number in the county is not that big, but to have your home falling down around you … things should be moving an awful lot quicker,” he added.
Cllr Charlie Murphy, who has raised the matter a number of times, described how serious the situation is for those affected Co Carlow householders who find that their homes are “falling down”.
