Get lost in a good book in Co Carlow for ‘Ireland Reads’ day

CARLOW Libraries have joined libraries across Ireland in celebrating , a national reading campaign during February, culminating in Day on Saturday 28 February.
The campaign, part of the government’s Healthy Ireland programme, celebrates and promotes the many benefits of reading for wellbeing and enjoyment. The theme for 2026 is .
Exciting events are planned for all ages to celebrate reading, books and literature across Co Carlow.
On Saturday 28 February at 11am, Wibbly Wobbly Wendy will entertain children aged two to 12 years in Carlow Central Library. At noon, there will be a special talk with crime author Patricia Gibney in Carlow Central Library’s historic Shaw Room. Patricia is the multi-million copy bestselling author of the detective series.
Elsewhere in the county, there will be a special session in Bagenalstown library at 11am and in Borris library, also at 11am. Booking is only required for the Patricia Gibney talk, so email library@carlowcoco.ie to reserve a free seat.
Fiona O’Toole, Healthy Ireland co-ordinator for Carlow Co Council Library Service, said: “We are delighted to bring the national campaign to celebrate reading to our community. We have an excellent array of activities and events lined up on Saturday 28 February to celebrate and the very important role this positive activity fulfils in people’s lives.
“Reading enriches our minds, reduces stress and connects us to ideas and stories that shape who we are. It opens doors to knowledge, imagination and supports wellbeing in today’s busy world.”
