A MARCH in solidarity with Palestinians is set to place in Carlow this Saturday, 6 September, organised by concerned citizens and the local branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC).
The demonstration will begin at 1pm at the Liberty Tree on Potato Market, with assembly scheduled for 12:30pm.
Ned Byrne, chairperson of IPSC Carlow, said the march aims to raise awareness of what he described as an “on-going genocide” in Gaza.
“We are marching in solidarity with the Palestinian people to raise awareness of the on-going genocide. We are calling on local TDs and the government to take action and enact the Occupied Territories Bill, with goods and services,” Mr Byrne stated.
He referenced recent developments regarding Israeli ‘war bonds’, saying: “The recent move of the facilitation of the Israeli war bonds from the Irish Central Bank to Luxembourg is a direct response to the pressure that the campaign in Ireland has had.” Mr Byrne called on the government to “comply with international law and the ICJ ruling to end their complicity in genocide.” The organisers had encouraged public participation, by stating: “We encourage everyone who is horrified by the brutal inhumanity that is centre stage in Gaza to add their voices…to send a powerful message to Zionist Israel and our elected representatives.”
