Family resource centre celebrates 25 years

Cutting the cake at the recent Bagenalstown FRC celebrations

BAGENALSTOWN Family Resource Centre (FRC) proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary with a vibrant and heartfelt event, marking a quarter-century of unwavering commitment to families and community support. The celebration, held on the International Day of Families, highlighted the centre’s legacy of empowerment, service and community solidarity.

The event welcomed dignitaries, service users, funders, board members and community stakeholders for a full day of reflection, recognition and festivities. It began with a warm welcome from director of services Lynda Stacey, who spoke passionately about the centre’s humble beginnings to becoming a vital hub of support for over 190 families annually.

“From our first steps with one dedicated worker and a couple of board members to a team of more than 80 today, our story is a testament to what community-led vision and resilience can achieve,” said Lynda. “This day is not just a celebration of years passed but of lives touched, challenges overcome and futures changed.”

Her address included remarkable statistics from 2024 alone: over 1,800 therapy sessions delivered, more than 29,000 meals served through childcare and afterschool programmes, and nearly 1,000 bus journeys provided – all representing tangible impacts on local lives.

Guest speakers included long-serving contributors such as Noel Egan reflecting on the centre’s foundation and growth over the years. Team members delivered heartfelt and passionate presentations, highlighting the wide range of services and supports that have been developed and provided through the FRC over the years – programmes like Preparing for Life, family supports, therapeutic services and the Déjà Vu charity shop, to mention just a few. Testimonials from service users further underscored the life-changing nature of the centre’s offerings.

The programme also featured contributions from Sandra Collins, senior manager PPFS of Tusla, and Fergal Landy, CEO of the FRC National Forum, emphasising the local, regional and national significance of the centre’s work.

A ceremonial cake-cutting and presentation of commemorative artwork created by all the children who attend the childcare centre was given to the board of directors, which added to the spirit of appreciation and unity.

Music and dance by the Nifty Fifties, children’s entertainment and community camaraderie rounded out the day, with a clear message resonating throughout: Bagenalstown FRC is not just a service provider; it is a cornerstone of hope and connection in the heart of Co Carlow.

As it looks to the future, Bagenalstown FRC’s Strategic Plan promises continued innovation, equity and sustainability, including plans for new sensory and horticultural spaces, infrastructure enhancements and expanded access for all.
